Crypto scam: exchanges, wallets and projects

Funds locked in platforms, wallets or projects that vanished, and how far the blockchain trail goes

In these cases the money usually leaves first towards a legitimate exchange and from there to wallets controlled by third parties. That means a trail exists and can be followed for a stretch, though not always to the end.

What we usually find

  • Instructions to install a wallet and, sometimes, to share the recovery phrase.
  • Support that exists only on Telegram or WhatsApp.
  • Extra deposits demanded before any withdrawal is allowed.
  • Projects promising a fixed daily return, unrelated to the market.

Documents needed

  • The transaction hashes.
  • The destination wallet address.
  • Proof of the crypto purchase on the original exchange.
  • The conversations where you were told what to do.

What can be done with them

We follow the transfers on the blockchain to the point where the funds enter an identifiable platform. From there, what can be done depends on that platform and the competent authority. When the trail is lost, we say so.
